Job Summary:

My client is an awarding winning organisation who is seeking a skilled and experienced Platform Engineer to join their dynamic team. As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining their platform architecture to ensure the reliability, and efficiency of their systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, operations, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust and reliable platform services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain the platform architecture, ensuring its reliability, scalability, and efficiency
  • Manage and maintain the infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and security
  • Continuously monitor and optimize the platform's performance and availability
  • Automate manual tasks and implement continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in platform engineering and recommend improvements to the existing architecture
  • Experience with virtualization infrastructure – VMware ESX, Hyper V, including storage and networks would be an advantage.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Platform or DevOps engineering, Infrastructure management, or related roles.
  • Solid experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based platforms: ideally with AWS
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience (IaC): ideally with CloudFormation bit Terraform accepted
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies e.g., Docker, Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines: either Jenkins or GitLab
  • Strong experience with monitoring skills e.g., Prometheus, DataDog, Grafana etc
  • Strong experience with automation tools e.g., Ansible
  • Strong programming skills in at least one language e.g., Python, Java, Go
  • Excellent virtualization platforms, infrastructure automation, and application hosting technologies.
  • You have a history working with server virtualization, IaaS and PaaS cloud
  • Configuration management tools e.g. TeamCity
  • Strong experience of operating systems: Linux and Windows
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment

Desirable

  • Java and .Net
  • Nexus Repository and GitHub Enterprise
  • Solid understanding of Active Directory
  • Ability to contribute to the definition and structuring of projects
  • Experience of working with Anti-Virus within Linux OS and SQL databases

About the Role

SAS is looking to add an experienced Cisco Network and Security Engineer to our technical team. You will be the principal engineer on current and future projects for existing and new customers. You will have the freedom to help guide the direction of future network and security practices and offerings. You must be driven and able to work to customer and internal deadlines without additional supervision.

Self-motivation to learn and expand your own ability is a key criterion of being a good fit for the position. Working without several layers of upper management offers the creative freedom to grow without restraints. The role consists of project-based consulting work in pre-sales and delivery. There are currently no day-to-day operational, managed service or on-call requirements.

Day to day responsibilities

The role will involve looking after Security Operations for a range of clients and sectors and responding to any active threats. Some of the daily responsibilities include responding to alerts generated by:

  • Own and develop delivery of the company’s security suite and roadmap to current and prospective customers
  • Lead the Security roadmap and offerings
  • Architect, design and deliver Network & Security solutions of varying complexity to end customers in accordance with technology roadmaps, standards and guidelines
  • Customer facing role in which you must translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Write and produce SoW’s (Statement of Work) for projects
  • Key point of contact for architectural issues in related projects
  • Actively engage on ongoing education to expand range of knowledge and expertise
  • Work closely with team on solution design and vertical focus
  • Malware Detection Platforms (e.g. AV, EDR, XDR)
  • Cloud Platforms (e.g. Office 365, GSuite, Azure)
  • Web Filtering systems
  • Firewalls
  • IDS/IPS
  • SIEM

Technical skills & experience:

  • Acute attention to detail
  • Resilient and results oriented
  • At a minimum, three years of experience working with and managing Internet traffic and underlying technologies such as DNS
  • Cloud experience in Azure,
  • Layer 7 firewalls, Vendors include Checkpoint, Juniper, and ideally Palo Alto
  • An analytical thinker and keen to keep learning and developing new skills and use your initiative to solve problems
  • Personable, customer focused and have the ability to build relationships with customers and colleagues
  • A passion for security and technology to be used to identify and solve problems at our clients to improve their security posture
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure, as you’ll be remediating major Security incidents and will be expected to lead the response
  • Relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Cisco processes is highly desired (BoM’s, estimates, TAC, SmartNet etc.)
  • 5-7 years’ experience as a Cisco Network and Security Engineer
  • CCNP in either R&S or Security
  • Design and Delivery of Cisco ISE, Firepower and Duo projects
  • Design and Delivery of Cisco network and routing platforms: ios and ios-xe based projects
  • Experience with Cisco Wireless. Traditional WLC based and DNA
  • Working understanding of Cisco DNA platform
  • Network configuration & deployment experience from Design to Delivery
  • Knowledge and experience of multiple Firewall technologies and Vendors
  • Palo Alto, F5, Checkpoint and Juniper experience is all beneficial

Nice to have

  • Bachelor degree qualifications or above in an IT discipline or relevant work experience
  • A minimum of five years of experience managing sophisticated, complex computer networks
  • Any certifications CCSA or CCSE
  • Experience in supporting, coaching, and mentoring your colleagues
